I am setting up a Windows 2008 R2 print services and I want my users installing printers using the web. The page opens fine on the server, but when I tried to access over the network from my workstation to, it prompts for credentials, I put in my domain credential but it does not take it. I clicked 'Cancel' and it displays 401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials. I don't have this issue on Windows 2003 R2!
Windows Server 2008 Application. Failing because of not finding the printer name. I also noticed in the pdf link listed above. IIS 7.0 - Default. Back in the days of IIS 6, IIS configuration backups and restores had a handy little GUI option that let you backup or restore your entire IIS set-up with ease. Since the introduction of IIS 7 in Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server R2.
There must be a configuration to be done on IIS but I don't know where, please help, thanks. Hi, Thanks for the post. Now I would like to ask some questions to narrow down the cause of this issue. Does this issue occur on all clients? If not, is there anything in common among the problematic clients? Does this issue occur with all users?
Is there a proxy server between IIS server and workstation? Does this issue occur when accessing this website locally?
What is the authentication method used for Internet Printing? For your reference, I have included some information about Basic Authentication and Windows Authentication below: Basic authentication Use basic authentication to restrict access to files on an NTFS-formatted Web server. With basic authentication, the user must enter credentials and access is based on the user ID. To use basic authentication, grant each user the right to log on locally and to make administration easier, add them to a group that has access to the necessary files. NOTE: Because user credentials are encoded with Base64 encoding but they are not encrypted when they are transmitted over the network, basic authentication is considered an insecure form of authentication. Integrated Windows authentication Integrated Windows authentication is more secure than basic authentication and it functions well in an Intranet environment where users have Windows domain accounts. In integrated Windows authentication, the browser attempts to use the current user's credentials from a domain logon and if this fails, the user is prompted to enter a user name and password.
If you use integrated Windows authentication, the user's password is not transmitted to the server. If the user has logged on to the local computer as a domain user, the user does not have to authenticate again when the user accesses a network computer in that domain. NOTE: You cannot use integrated Windows authentication through a proxy server.
Meanwhile, we also need to collect the MPS report on Print Server: 1. Download proper MPS Report tool from the website below. Microsoft Product Support Reports 2. Double-click to run it, if requirement is not met, please follow the wizard to download and install them. After that, click Next, when the 'Select the diagnostics you want to run' page appears, select 'General', “Internet and Networking”, “Business Networks”, “Server Components”, click Next. After collecting all log files, choose 'Save the results', choose a folder to save MPSReports.cab file. Use Windows Live SkyDrive ( ) to upload the file and then send the download address to me directly at Please inform me of your email title.
